2. Formula 1 '05

Chapter 2: A thrilling new dawn

After playing Crash Bandicoot 3 continuously for weekends and holidays; I eventually got tired of the game because it was the only game that we owned for the PlayStation 1 and that we did not have a memory card to save the progress of the game, therefore we always had to start from scratch every time we decided to play the game. In return, it built our muscle memory for the game, so going through the early levels was not much of an issue anymore. However, that changed in 2006 when my mother bought my brother the best of the best PlayStation 2 slim edition console for his birthday. The console was silver, it came with one controller, which was the downside but also came with one video game called Formula 1 '05.

This was an absolutely phenomenal game, as it perfectly simulated tracks from the Formula 1 and also the gameplay was fun, as you partake in a race as one of the ten teams. When we started the game; our favorite team to race for was BAR Honda, this was because our father had a 1995 Honda Ballade. This game was fun to play as it contained many different game modes, such as the Championship, Single and Multiplayer quick race. At first when playing this game; we had no sense of direction or clue to what we were supposed to do, resulting from not paying attention to what is said in the game and being brought into the world of Formula 1, by the game because public television did not screen the formula 1 but only reported the outcomes of it in the news, which also there paid zero😪 attention to. What can you say, I was 5 years old then. When we started playing the game, it was a bit difficult, because 10/10 times we would not enter the pit lane at, or enter the pit lane really early, or towards the final laps from seeing from the heads up display (HUD) that we were low on fuel. Entering the pit lane from either which except the planned pit stop; the pit crew would do nothing. Therefore, by continuously playing the game, we finally discovered the error that we have been doing😅 probably for 3 to 4 days straight when playing the championship mode. As more we played the game, we understood what Formula 1 was really about. Playing the game more over months, increasing my basic understanding and skill of the game; it came to be that my favorite racing team was the Williams BMW due to the fact my mother owned a 2000 BMW 316i, and my favorite driver was Mark Webber. What I will not forget about this game is the intro of the game and the race tracks; especially the race track in Monaco, because it had many sharp turns like the hairpin turn, in which I always scratched the car at the outside wall and every time we came first place we would hit the barrier on the right before crossing the finish line. This game raised my interest for the Formula 1.
