Why Should There Be African Dedicated Gaming Servers

It is about time I finally spoke about this. Africa needs to have its own region of Gaming servers. These gaming servers should allow online gaming to take place from the various gaming platforms on PC, PlayStation, XBOX, and Nintendo.

Why Should Africa Have Its Own Region Of Servers

Every African gamer has this problem and its Heavy LAG! Lag is a noticeable delay between the action of players and the reaction of the server supporting the video game. I stay in South Africa and for most of the games that I play online; the best or closest servers near to my region are EU servers. By adding servers in Africa; it will reduce the Lag and it will promote cooperative and competitive gameplay between African gamers.

As you can see from the image above; it shows the Steam Global Traffic, in which indicates the data downloaded by gamers for the last 7 days. Africa as you can see; is not green meaning that it has a low traffic of gamers. Why is this so? Lag in online gaming so they prefer to play offline and that most African gamers play on consoles; PC gaming is still a new thing to us. The high cost of living also constitutes to this problem.

However, if you check the Steam Global Traffic Map, but now if you select the average download rate, you can see that parts of Africa light up green; why is this so? Because the internet connection in African countries is not that bad.

What good will this bring?

If this is carried out in a proper way, it would result in:
  • Esports will be more popular in Africa, increasing the world's audience for Esports.
  • International gaming teams like FazeClan, Cloud 9 Gaming, TSM, etc will discover hidden talent that is resting on African soil.
  • This will bring innovation and development in technology, which means that there will be faster and better internet connections throughout Africa.
  • There will be more competitive, intense and exciting Esports events in Africa and the rest of the world.
  • This will create opportunities for new coming Esport teams.
  • This will create employment for the unemployed individuals in Africa and therefore boosting the economies of the countries resulting to the improvment in the lifestyles of individuals.
  • This will bring more gamers on the online gaming scene.
  • Gaming publishers will earn a greater revenue from this.
  • This will also attract more investors to Africa
